User Review of Nikon D90 kit 18-105 VR

I bought it right after the Nikon D3000, which was safely taken away from me a week later. That was enough time to realize that a more serious technique was needed. I recommend taking it with a lens of 18-105 and no more, or without a lens at all, if you already have your own optics.

This is the most versatile option for absolutely any type of shooting. Landscapes, portraits - it doesn't matter. Now about the camera itself. The Nikon D90 is not an everyday toy with a "do well" button. This is a serious camera that is easy to understand and master. Everything becomes intuitively clear literally after a week of use. And then only practice. The camera has tremendous endurance. Frosts -40, heat +50, humidity, temperature changes, snow, rain. Works like clockwork. After a run of 50,000 frames, for almost 10 years of harsh conditions, only the internal screen failed. It has almost no effect on work, I will change everything. I will not write about the functionality, since everyone has their own. But it is more than enough for amateur shooting. Modes, shutter speeds, self-timer - everything basic is present. Do not expect miracles from the camera, it is quite old for the present time, there is a problem with noise at high ISO, autofocus works well only with static objects. That's why he's an amateur. I will name only one minus - weight. It can be a problem for girls. It's also too heavy for long journeys. But the shots are worth it. Of course, after Photoshop. There are no miracles without it. As a result: to date, lighter, advanced models from the same Nikon have already been released. They will leave far behind the "retro tube" Nikon D90. But if luck turns up and you have the opportunity to start with him - feel free to take it. You will never regret it.

Greetings to all who have looked in! I continue to write about what I love very much, namely about photography. Today my review is dedicated to a fairly budget Nikon D90 SLR camera. She has been with me for more than a year and I really have something to tell and show. And what can a beginner who has barely picked up a camera expect? Of course, I didn't think that I would immediately start shooting masterpieces, but I really wanted to see the difference between photos taken on a phone and on a camera. Also, I was hoping for very bright, juicy and sharp shots. Then I didn't understand how important the settings were and how useless the Auto mode was. And also, underestimated the power of processing.

Now I consider myself a pretty confident user, but it wasn't always like that. And if the phones are designed so that we get good pictures right away, then we need to work with the camera. It is very important to understand which settings will help you out in this or that situation, or help to achieve the intended effect. I bought a camera and online photography courses in one day, but at first I was even afraid to pick it up. I took small, small steps towards my dream and then I fell into despair, then I felt like a genius. Oh, that feeling when the background is blurred... I was just jumping with happiness, having taken the very first such photos. In principle, it's not so difficult to figure out the settings, but for a long time the aperture priority was enough for me. It is not necessary to immediately strive for a completely manual mode. Basically, it is needed for heavy shooting conditions, but when I switched to it, I did not return to the priority of the aperture.

It is also very important to understand that a SLR camera is not the easiest technique in terms of weight. I'm a pretty petite girl and a DSLR plus a few lenses is quite a heavy burden for me. Now I have found my perfect lens and I wear it without taking it off, so there is no need to carry weights.

While I was studying at photography courses, I was shooting with a kit lens and it wasn't always easy. In addition, it was not new and because of this there were problems with focusing. If you only knew how many super shots he messed up for me. But under normal shooting conditions, it is quite possible to take decent photos on it. In photography, the skill and vision of the frame are much more important than expensive equipment. Of course, with the best technology and the quality is better, if you are already a skilled user, but at the initial level this is not something worth dwelling on.

Well, you understand right? After a dark, dark whale lens, it was akin to a miracle to get a high-powered one! And also the weight... He's so small, light, cute. I was ready to literally kiss this lens. But I had to get used to it. Buying such a thing, it will no longer be possible to shoot from one point. On the one hand, it was no longer necessary to carry weights, and on the other - now I had to run pretty hard to shoot the model in different plans.

Over time, I was able to afford to buy another lens and it became my favorite. Now I only use it. Yes, it is not as light-bearing as the previous one, but it is quite enough for me. And yet, you can't call it small, but such a disadvantage as weight simply cannot cover all its advantages. The first thing that caught my eye was the juiciness of the frames. Yes, it was an order of magnitude brighter than fifty kopecks. And now I could shoot beautiful full-length portraits and even landscapes.

It has never failed me, it has not broken down, it has not glitched during all the time of active use. Even in winter, in the harshest shooting conditions, I can rely on him. It doesn't have many of the features available to modern cameras, but it has everything to get great pictures. It's easy to figure it out, it's easy to make friends with him and get exactly the result you expect. Undoubtedly, I recommend this model if you are looking for a budget camera.

I bought a Nikon D90 with an 18-105mm whale lens 4 years ago. At school and institute, I shot at the Zenith, and after its breakdown I used "soap dishes" for 7 years (although one of them was just great), which completely erased all knowledge of photography in my brains (and I was hoping for "muscle memory", naive ...) Needless to say, the first pictures in Auto modes disappointed me terribly!

After going through "this is a bad lens, oh, if there was another one, then my photos would be brilliant!" and "ugh, a stupid camera with a small matrix", I got to "what a fool I am, I don't understand anything at all in photos!!!". Well, after realizing my own dullness, I finally stopped haying the camera, and started studying theory and practice) Now I estimate my level at 3+ and continue to study.

My impressions of the camera after a few years of operation are a universal camera, and in a feast, and in the world, and in good people! You can travel with him, take portraits, holidays, a subject, a report.

Positive about Nikon D90

- A bunch of buttons on the case, which makes it possible to quickly change settings. The main thing is to study the instructions and know what kind of buttons these are))) There is one nuance, when the screen is turned on, some of them do not respond to pressing, and you need to switch to the viewfinder (this could be attributed to the shortcomings, but since you need to press only one extra button, and not always shooting goes through the screen, let's take it for granted)

- Fits comfortably in your hand

- With a screwdriver

- The battery still hasn't failed

- Like the color rendering

- Shooting a series of frames (convenient when photographing children, animals and everything that moves, because the probability of making a good frame increases)

- Correct automatic BB

- It is possible to preview the reshoots

- With a zoom lens 18-105 is quite versatile

Sad moments about Nikon D90

- The video is no good, but everyone has already written it, and I didn't expect that I would shoot it. But with the advent of the child, I had to, to be honest, the video from the phone turned out to be better, but it will do for family viewing.

- A little heavy. If you hold it with one hand for a long time, the brush gets tired. It is necessary to buy a special strap for the brush.

- There is no lace for the lens cap. I didn't put this lid anywhere - from tables, chairs, TV, shelves and pockets, to the floor, bush, bra and underpants!!! And then I'm looking for....)))

- Now I began to miss the dynamic range of the matrix. But this is in rare cases. Here I save myself with Photoshop.

- The lens aperture is too small

- The ability to use an external flash up to a shutter speed of 1 \200. That is, to highlight the object in the bright sun (shutter speed 1\500, for example) it is no longer possible.

Tips for setting up a Nikon D90 camera

- First of all, as soon as you start shooting, adjust the white Balance. This is one of the main components of the success of a good picture. Someone will say, "There is Photoshop and everything can be fixed." But it's no secret that color correction is one of the most difficult operations, because not everyone knows how to give the skin the right shade and which shade is right, which sliders to twist and to what extent they can be shifted. Therefore, initially correctly set the white balance, saves us from further hemorrhoids when processing photos. It is always easier to tighten the sliders a little to give or change the shade than to change the blue skin color to pink, for example) Unless you are trying to achieve a certain effect on the photo associated with an artistic idea, then you can specifically set the wrong BB.

So, the automatic BB gives very good results, especially on the street and in good lighting. Therefore, if you are forgetful, and start "firing from a photo gun as soon as you see the game," install an Automatic BB right away and don't worry. If everything is OK with memory and suddenness, check the BB settings before you start shooting.

But there are situations where jambs of Automatic modes can get out, for example, indoors in difficult lighting (a combination of natural light, electric bulbs and flash). Then you can CONFIGURE THE BB MANUALLY. What needs to be done for this? Of course, read the instructions! And if you, like me, cannot normally read something that refers to itself 10 times by sending from one page to another, and therefore the reading of the entire instruction was sent "to the furnace", listen here (but it's better to read this important book.

Immediately stock up on a sample of white or neutral gray. I prefer a plain white A4 sheet, but it can be a ceiling, for example. Press the WB button on the left of the camera body and turn the main wheel (which is closer to you, it is also responsible for the shutter speed) until we see the inscription Pre on the control panel (that is, scroll through all possible BB to manual preset). Now we press and hold the WB button for a couple of seconds until the label Pre starts flashing, and we photograph our standard (it should cover almost the entire field of view of the camera). If everything is done correctly, the inscription Good will appear, if something is wrong - no Gd, then you need to repeat the BB measurement by pressing the WB button again and reshooting the object of the reference color. If everything worked out, press the WB button and turn the control dial to the value d-0. It is automatically recorded in the camera's memory, and then, in such conditions, you can already select this white balance value.

- Turn on the Display of over-lights in the snapshot view mode. This is a very convenient function for those who shoot in manual mode, and the machine sometimes makes mistakes when determining exposure, especially with a very contrasting scene, for example, where there are deep shadows and brightly lit objects, the latter will be overexposed. In order not to lose information from overexposures, it is necessary to adjust the exposure, and to see overexposures, they can be displayed on the screen. To do this, go to the Menu - Viewing mode - Display mode - Illumination, and check the box. Does not forget to click Done. You can also turn on the RGB Histogram here, if you are guided by it (the thing is actually useful, it helps to correct the BB and expopara).

A few tips on how to improve the photo. (The photo examples will use photos taken with different lenses, not just whale lenses).

To begin with, it would be nice to learn the basic parameters of the shooting process - this is exposure, photosensitivity, white balance. To master the first two concepts, there are virtual camera simulators or photo simulators.

If there are no problems with knowledge of the theory, and the pictures lack something, start experimenting! Look for new angles, think about the background, change the shooting parameters, play with the light, shoot more often, read articles about photography and learn from the example of the best photographers in the world!

And now a little bit of everyday tricks to create more interesting photos

Creating a beautiful background. What is needed for this - for example, a garland.

Hi! I decided to tell you about my old friend - the Nikon D90 camera.

It was a gift, so it was not the case when I chose, studied and decided for a long time. I got to know him already in the process. Let's give some dry information that the manufacturer gives:

I gave the main characteristics in case someone is interested. Well, now a few words naturally about the camera during operation Smile To be honest, I'm not one of those who studied the information in the documents carefully, rather, my method is the poke method. At the time of the review, Nikon has been with me for about 7 years.

Appearance:

Everything is neat, compact, there is protection on the screen. I will also attribute comfort here - honestly, heavy. It is quite difficult to hold in one hand for a long time. So it's worth remembering this when buying.

Exploitation:

As I mentioned above, I do not claim to be the "Best photographer", so the layman's view has 11 modes: P, S, A, M, portrait, landscape, macro, sport, night, auto with the flash off and auto. Believe me, for lovers of photography who do not claim to earn money with his help - the camera has more than enough shooting options. Let me explain - after all, this equipment belongs to an amateur, and is more suitable for a start.

I'm trying not to use an external flash, because the lighting doesn't suit me very much.

If you are going to buy this camera, or any other - do not be lazy, try to change things like ISO, aperture and white balance! I assure you, the effect will be different, the quality of the photo can please you if you correctly "twist" these indicators.

What in general? In general, this is a really cool camera for anyone who wants to start seriously doing photography, or just wants to have high-quality photos.

P.S. I can't help but note the reviews that are upset and take out the lack of good video shooting - well, guys, this is the same as buying an apple and telling that the melon from it is just no. Stay objective. Do you want high-quality video - video cameras to help you, friends!

Photo:

Well, the most important thing is the result! Smile I share different pictures with which you can evaluate what the Nikon D90 is capable of.

The most successful choice among Nikon DSLRs! After the previous Nkon D80 was smashed to pieces on a Cliff in the Crimea in 2012, I had to buy the next model, this is the Nikon D90 kit 18-105, so I have the opportunity to compare these two models and note all the pros and cons of the D90. Impressions from the first photos: "Wow!" "Wow!" "Cool!" The fact is that I often rented the same place D80 in my apartment, selecting the necessary parameters and already "by eye" I know what the result should look like, and then immediately, on the machine, I get a picture twice as cool as I expected. Or rather, I didn't expect it - it's really better. Then I set the same manual parameters on both and began to compare. In general, the D90 is a big step forward. The shooting quality is better, a wider dynamic range is felt. The screen is 3 inches, in any case better than 2.5 on the D80. Moreover, it honestly shows color reproduction, but the brightness is a little overstated, so this point should be taken into account. The lens 15-105 in theory should be worse than 18-135, but in fact it still won in clarity, probably because of the smaller number of lenses. Autofocus focuses faster and almost never misses. The added function "Active D Lighting" is just a godsend for a beginner photographer and is very useful for shooting with contour lighting, which is useful for example at sea or in the mountains, where the sun "shines right in the eye")). The carcass itself is very grasping and comfortable, and the camera itself is quite weighty, but this has its own charm. He is not afraid of heat, sand, cold or direct rays of light, in general, such a "workhorse", but still, I do not categorically advise you not to just carry it around your neck, be sure to buy a spacious bag for him and necessarily change plastic carabiners to iron ones on it, it costs a penny, but the bag never the lens will not crash to the ground and will not "fall off", as I had in 2014 right at the very beginning of a week-long hike in the Crimea. In this model, Nikon has inserted a video mode for the first time. It was "stuck", because there is no autofocus and the quality is worse than on the same Galaxy S4, because it is difficult to keep such a bandura so that the picture in the frame does not shake. In general, the video here is a lure for beginners. By the way, if this is your first DSLR, then you don't have to worry, click on the "automatic" and everything will be garazd, and in general, in order to fully study all the settings and bells and whistles, it personally took me four months (!) of daily training in different conditions, although I took it exclusively for trips to the sea. It has a very interesting function, it is remote control of two flashbulbs, I think anyone "in the subject" will understand that this is a very useful function for portrait or subject shooting. HDR photos are very successfully obtained, this is already a professional replacement for D-lighting. I didn't regret for a second that I "updated" my machine for memorable pictures. Better expensive memories than cheap show-offs, I mean the purchase of various inexpensive "soap dishes" with a lot of megapixels and a frenzied zoom. With such a camera, you can already earn money at weddings or graduations. The battery lasts for a whole day, for 700 pictures without a flash, and charging lasts only two hours with a little.Separately, I want to note the 18-105 lens, which does not give a "barrel" at all, that is, over the entire zoom range, the edges of the image do not bend (almost), compared to 18-135, where I had to keep it at "25" all the time. It's very nice to watch photos on a FullHD TV, then all the colors really open up and in general, the photos turn out to be alive, straight 3D of some kind.

I bought my camera back in 2012, this summer he turned 4 years old, at the moment I completely figured it out, well, how completely... At the amateur level, of course, I am very far from being a pro, and I do not seek to increase my knowledge to such heights.

The purchase of the camera was planned for home use, for me the main criterion was the versatility of the lens, the ability to photograph portraits, landscapes, flowers, just to transfer the happiest moments from life into a photograph.

I decided on my model precisely because of its versatility, the whale lens of 18-105 mm. allows you to shoot everything you can - portraits, objects, reportage, and landscape. This is really the camera that I needed so much and without which no event in my life can do.

The mode dial allows you to choose one of the automatic scene shooting methods, fully automatic mode, or creative mode, where you need to adjust the number of aperture and shutter speed yourself.

There are a large number of additional buttons on the case that allow you to quickly change settings, there is no difficulty in understanding them if you carefully read the instructions, I will not dwell on this in detail in the review.

The main display is protected by a plastic cover that prevents it from being damaged. We remove the cover - the display is brand new, not a single scuff or scratch.

The menu is divided into several sections - viewing, shooting mode, user settings, settings modes, processing menu. Everything is simple and clear, at least now that I have figured everything out, again I have read the instructions several times, so it's not a problem for me to make elementary settings. But my husband still knows how to take pictures only in automatic mode, which makes buying a SLR camera a pointless waste of money for him.

The video on this camera does not differ in super quality, although it is quite good for home use, in all modes recording is conducted at a cinematic frequency of 24 frames per second.

I will give an example of several photos taken with my camera, all photos are raw, because I want to show the real picture of how my camera shoots in various modes. I always make the settings myself, I don't take pictures on the machine, I prefer semi-automatic settings of shutter priority and aperture modes.

Hello everyone Are you eyeing a Nikon D90 and still wondering whether to buy it or not? Do not doubt - the camera is SIMPLY GORGEOUS! Especially in the right hands! Smile I've been shooting them for 5 years and I'm 100% satisfied! The pictures are high-quality, bright, the color reproduction is excellent! The buttons on the case are conveniently located, everything, as they say, is "at hand". It is convenient that there is an opportunity to see the light in the photos. In bright light during the day, when the screen is poorly visible, this function helps a lot! In general, the camera is excellent, suitable for professional shooting, and even more so for an amateur. A little heavy with unaccustomed, but it's only with unaccustomed)) Here I will explain "on my fingers" how to set up the camera in such a way that it becomes a pleasure to shoot! So, let's get started!

1. Modes. Do not try to shoot in "auto" mode. As a rule, nothing worthwhile comes out of this. It is best to shoot in P mode. The shutter speed and exposure are set automatically, and this is the most for a beginner. However, we will have to make some amendments. But there is no need to be afraid of this, because I will tell you everything in an accessible way. First we look at the buttons that are on top of the camera:

- If the picture turns out to be dark, you need to press the button (+/-) and, while holding it, turn the wheel. To the side (+) - lighter, (-) - darker. Everything is simple.

- There is another button to the right of the (+/-) button. We press and hold it, and, turning the wheel, select an icon with the same pattern as on the button itself.

- The next button labeled AF. Press and hold, turn the same wheel and select AF-A.

2. It is better to make the white balance automatic.

3. Focusing in this mode is manual, we choose the focus point ourselves by looking into the viewfinder and moving the focus point to the desired object. This will help to avoid blurred frames and autofocus errors, when, for example, the subject is not in focus, but the background behind the subject. To select the focus point, use the arrows on the joystick around the "OK" button. Thanks to manual focusing, you can get very interesting photos.

4. ISO. Photosensitivity. During the day we shoot at 200-250, the darker it is outside, the higher we set the ISO. At the highest ISO value of 2500, you can take good night shots even without a flash, BUT keep in mind that grain will appear! To change the ISO value, hold down this button and select the "wheel" value.

Now a little bit ABOUT THE MODES.

The "auto" mode is an extreme measure when, well, it does not work at all to set the settings yourself.

The background turns out to be "washed", and the subject comes to the fore. Just don't make a mistake with the focus! Otherwise, the opposite will happen: the background is in focus, the object is out of focus!

Sport mode (running man) is suitable for shooting objects in motion.

Night portrait will help you create beautiful night shots. Hold the camera firmly, otherwise the pictures will be smeared!

And finally: in order to see the overexposure of photos, you need to select the appropriate setting in the photo viewing mode with the joystick "up-down". The illuminated places at the same time "blink" dark.

Well, in general, that's all for a start! Improve, learn your Nikon! Have a good picture and a great mood to everyone!
