Canon PowerShot G1X - review

Canon PowerShot G1X is a good option for an amateur.

My friends, today I want to share with you my opinion about the Canon PowerShot G1 X camera.

I was lucky enough to purchase this animal about two years ago to replace my old PowerShot A 720 IS. I hesitated for a long time between two veterans of the Nikon and Canon camera industry. I think many camera owners had a similar choice. Since I was already familiar with Canon, I still decided to continue the dynasty.

I am not a professional in the art of photography (actually. I can even be called an amateur with a big stretch), so I will not consider this camera in technical details. The main criterion for choosing was the size of the matrix. In this case, it is 18.7 x 14 mm. The most important thing that I realized after studying dozens of reviews and forums is that it doesn't matter how many megapixels there are in the camera, the main thing is that the physical size of the matrix is large. But, enough of the background, let's move on to something more specific.

The device is quite large, compared to conventional "soap dishes". In addition, the case is made of metal, which makes it weighty for women's pens. But such heaviness is even pleasant to me. The controls are ergonomically positioned, and the rotary screen is a pleasant, but not so important, bonus for me. I am also glad that it is possible to remove the flash, since such a focus did not pass on my old device, and the flash was always turned on at the most unnecessary moment.

Naturally, there is a great Auto mode, although lately I've been trying to wean myself off it. Slowly mastering the program mode.In addition to it, there are a great many ready-made modes, such as Portrait, Landscape, Night and everything like that. HD video has never come in handy for me all the time, I'm more of a fan of static. Zoom is stated to be quite average, but at the same time my first experiment with it was very successful.

And now about the sad. The main problem of this device is Macro. The minimum macro distance is 20cm! In fact, even more. This is my most important omission when choosing. Since I'm just a mega-fan of macro photography, this fact turned out to be shocking for me. Although, I admit, it's only my inattention that's to blame. But, despite this, I am happy with the device, although I think that the price is too high. Now there are many alternatives that are passable in price and, in some cases, better in characteristics.

I definitely recommend the device, especially for those who prefer shooting portraits and landscapes.
