Canon PowerShot SX150 IS - camera reviews

The Canon PowerShot SX150 IS is a good compromise between a DSLR and a point-and-shoot.

You don't have a DSLR yet, but you're looking for a "point-and-shoot" camera that can take quality pictures? You don't shoot on "auto" and you like to tinker with the manual settings? Are you looking for a camera that can zoom in on your subject without losing quality? Then this is the camera for you.

I chose it long and thoughtfully. I was pleased with the low price, stabilizer and 12x optical zoom. Stabilizer actually turned out quite powerful, the image does not "blur" when shooting on the move, or shaky hands. Zoom is really on point - you can take pictures of distant objects, architecture, animals in the natural environment without loss of quality and being away from the subject.

Among other advantages of the device I would like to mention the presence of manual settings of practically all the parameters, such as aperture, ISO, flash power, the availability of a variety of "preset" shooting modes, both standard and "artistic", not a bad video quality, an orientation sensor of the device - the image "rotates" simultaneously with the rotation of the device.

However, the power supply from standard batteries or AA batteries is, so to speak, the cornerstone of this camera. On the one hand the idea is good - "finger" batteries can be bought at any shop, to take spare batteries for a trip, on the other hand - they will be enough if only for 30 shots - the device mercilessly "eats" the charge. Even powerful rechargeable batteries from well-known companies hold the charge very little. (By the way, the batteries are not included). And, alas, you can not keep track of the battery charge, that is, you will realize that it is low only when the corresponding icon starts blinking on the screen, but before that there is no indication of battery charge.

The quality of images, of course, puts up a palsy before the quality of even the most budget SLR, matrix is a little noisy, but compared to other "soap boxes" this device wins. If you set the ISO to a minimum (80) and shoot outdoors in good light, your photos will not disappoint.

I would not call this camera bulky, as for some reason like to characterize it in reviews. I, as an SLR owner, find it small and weightless and it is comfortable in my hand. But, of course, there are "soapboxes" of more compact size, so I would call it more of a medium size.

***

Well, I definitely recommend this camera for those who are not used to shooting on "auto" because in this mode it shoots rather mediocre, and the wide range of settings basically implies the use of manual modes, I also recommend it for someone who would not be a big problem to charge the batteries every week and have another set of spare batteries. This camera will be great for those who know the basics of photography and have well "sharpened" hands. For beginners, it is better to choose something from Canon ixus line or simpler models without manual settings.

P.S. I didn't choose the best photos taken with this device, but just the first ones I found, to show rather something average, what this device is capable of in the hands of any photographer.

The Canon PowerShot SX150 IS is almost a full-fledged DSLR. I will start by saying that my friends gave me this camera as a birthday present. At first I was going to buy myself something pseudo-SLR, but my friends beat me to it. For me the main criteria of choice was a good optical zoom, a wide range of adjustments of different parameters, compactness - did not play a special role. In general I needed a camera for basic photography. When I received this model as a gift and tried it out, I was very satisfied. Everything I need - all present. It has a fairly wide range of shutter speeds (up to 15 seconds), a good zoom, and a good grip. From the minuses - voracious in terms of batteries, even without using the flash. From the modes built into the camera I mostly use shutter priority or fully manual. If the range of aperture settings is not enough (and the range is really not wide) I adjust it with the exposure corrector. If there is still not enough color - at your service a great many primitive photo editors available for download on the Internet. A couple of manipulations and a beautiful photo is ready. The girl has a Canon SLR - the difference between the quality of photos is practically not felt. In general, it is a decent device for the money, I recommend it to those who lack a soapbox and want to make a beautiful and unusual photos, but do not have enough money for a DSLR, and to all those who just want to try their forces in the art of photography.

Canon PowerShot SX150 IS - a good camera for an amateur. Good day to you all! I'm Yulia and it's "you" to me. I want to tell you about my first camera Canon SX150 IS. I have to admit that it took me a long time to choose a camera, at first I wanted exclusively Lumix, looked through them all, but after a long shopping and searching on the internet I chose this one! I bought it at a store in March 2012, I had to order it as it was out of stock.

So about the pros of the Canon PowerShot SX150 IS: Beautiful design. It looks like a semi-professional, as it is considered. It looks more expensive than its price. The price, I bought the camera for about 6.5 thousand and I also bought a memory card for about 1 thousand and about 1 thousand batteries and a charger for them. Then I bought a carrying case. It is battery operated. I have to admit that when I was choosing my camera I thought this factor was a big minus. But I changed my mind. Because I bought a pretty powerful GP 2700 batteries, the kit had two pairs of batteries and a charger. I quietly put it on overnight and ready 2 pairs of batteries can last a very long time, depending on usage. For me it lasts for a month for sure. Great macro, just super. Bright pictures of the sky, the sun. Bright colors on the street. The ability to use manual focus, but it only works on close photographed objects, such that to take a picture of a person, and behind was a muddy background, you can not. Decent pictures in the home environment.

Now for the downsides of the Canon PowerShot SX150 IS, which are few, but they are very weighty, so the rating is not 5. A lot of unnecessary modes. Couldn't find the "sports" mode. That kills me in it. Can't take pictures in motion. All vintage soapboxes and even my phone have this feature, but here it is not. In general, see for yourself, with photos in motion such turbidity is always. So fun photos with leaves/snow/water splashing you don't get)Although maybe I just haven't found it. When taking macro photos with the flash, you have to watch the shadow from the lens, since the flash is right above it. Very ill-advised too. Well and the last small and weightless minus, that the flash has to be opened manually, and this and I and everyone else always forget about it. So I have to constantly say with my mouth half-closed "Flash". I would still recommend it to photography enthusiasts and regular people looking for a good and inexpensive camera. Thanks for your consideration. I hope my review was helpful.

Canon PowerShot SX150 IS - I don't advise to buy it for anyone! Hello dear readers. Today I want to tell you about the mistake I regretted for the whole year. I bought this camera in Russia. I was immediately attracted by the price and the design. I was also offered to buy another camera at a higher price, but apparently I am a failure in life. When I got home I immediately opened it and checked it out. The batteries only lasted for about 10 shots. I thought at first that the batteries were old in the store, so I put new ones in. What was my surprise when the camera stopped working after 15 frames. The zoom is great! It only lasts about 5 minutes on video. So I beg you, don't buy this camera, buy a more expensive but better one.

If you want to ruin your vacation, you just need a camera like the Canon PowerShot SX150 IS. My story with the defective product. Last year my husband and I decided to buy a camera for our trip to Crimea. Before, we used a tablet and did not know a thing. But here we decided that it is a necessary thing for a household and indispensable. A silly business is not a difficult one. We went to the nearest hardware store, be damned - but about that later and bought this "super" device Canon PowerShot SX150 IS. What to him! We couldn't take pictures on vacation, because after 10 frames the battery began to show a blinking charging icon. We didn't even try to take a video. Well, we think we bought low-quality batteries, by the way Durassel. By the end of the vacation we had changed the batteries every day, the vendors greeted us like family, different manufacturers and different price categories, while making no more than 15 frames a day. Great vacation, isn't it? Up to the beginning of this summer we safely forgot about the camera, put it into a distant drawer and returned to the tablet. Vacation was approaching, we decided to buy rechargeable batteries for the long dusty unfortunate camera. The effect was zero, the same 10 frames and the blinking charging icon. We took it to the same appliance store under warranty for repair. We had heard about their scams and cheating customers, but hoped until the very last that we would be repaired or the faulty goods would be exchanged. But it wasn't! Without going into details, I can say that we took it to two different locations of the chain store to no avail. They didn't even test it. They took the camera to a Canon service center for a month and remembered it only when we came to pick it up. Needless to say. The camera was never mended. It was clearly a manufacturing defect and neither the vendor nor the official service center wanted to acknowledge it. Well, no one wants to recycle, so we'll find a sucker and sell it.

I will tell you about other shortcomings of Canon PowerShot SX150 IS. Canon PowerShot SX150 IS can work normally only with the "Auto" function. When you want to take a picture of something moving, you have to use the "TV" function, but it makes the picture darker and requires a flash, which reduces the battery life, i.e. you will not get 10 shots, but only 6-7 shots. If you need to take a picture of a sleeping cat or husband, I put the function "Whisper", but the photo is of lower quality than on the same TV. The flash again, damn it. When I need to catch the right moment, the camera adjusts, adjusts sharpness, the flash charges, and finally it's ready, but the moment has already been missed. Or blurred. Sadness, sadness, eh... I'm upset with the purchase, the Canon PowerShot SX150 IS camera in general, and the service centers that shouldn't dip their faces in the dirt of the Canon brand.

It's the balls that get in the way of the bad dancer. Or prove to me that the DSLR is better! I saw unflattering reviews on fotoloid.ru about my beloved Canon and got offended. Let's take a dispassionate look at the pros and cons of this camera, although, looking ahead, it has no cons.

From the manufacturer: The Canon PowerShot SX150 IS is an ultra-lightweight superzoom. The PowerShot SX150 IS will allow anyone to take beautiful photos at 14.1 megapixels, as well as HD movies with a 12x optical zoom. Setting options ranging from Intelligent Auto mode to full manual control will suit any level of photographer.

Benefits of the Canon PowerShot SX150 IS: 12x zoom, 28mm wide-angle lens. Intelligent IS14.1-megapixel CCD image sensor. Intelligent mode auto settings and easy mode recognize 32 types of scenes. 7.5 cm (3.0") LCD screen. HD video recording with stereo sound. Full manual control. Creative filters. Miniature effect. Smart shutter and wink timer. iFrame video capture.

The camera Canon PowerShot SX150 IS was bought for 800 hryvnia, i.e. at that time 100 dollars. In its price segment the device is unparalleled. Many are now sick of the "DSLR". I'll tell you as someone who has a DSLR, and which, thanks to this Canon, dust in the box - to achieve the same quality photos, blur and clarity, you need to invest not less than $ 3 thousand for the amateur level, for a professional you need a more expensive matrix + all kinds of soft boxes / flashes / reflectors, in general, not less than $ 5 thousand.

The look of the Canon PowerShot SX150 IS. The camera feels good in my hand. I would say that this model is more female, but for example the 110 is more of a male model. The features of cameras in this lineup are practically the same, so it is better to choose what is cheaper rather than what you see.

Canon PowerShot SX150 IS automatic settings: Auto mode - well, clearly, you don't have to do anything. Press the button and tell you how bad the photo is enjoy it. Mode "Simple" - what is the difference from Auto, I do not understand, but it has a beautiful icon - a heart. Mode SCN, aka "Scene" aka "Portrait" - does not turn on the flash, so as not to hurt my eyes, automatically set a very low ISO, everything is fine, people who have complained about portraits, I understand that this button did not see. Moving on, Fisheye mode. This is kind of a gimmick of this model, the others don't have it. It looks funny the first 20 times, then it is not used. For the same reason, once again, I agitate not to particularly go into the minor differences of the entire line, and just save money. Mode "silent" - Aka James Bond's best helper - shooting without any sounds in case you decide to catch your husband or kids helping him steal a cake at the fridge. Video Mode. Positioned as a model with HD-video, in fact you are unlikely to notice with the naked eye any particular difference between the video in cameras with 720 or 640 resolution. Video mode is turned on with a quick button, this red thing on the photo from any mode, which is convenient if you need to capture the remains of the ill-fated cake.

Canon PowerShot SX150 IS manual settings: Software mode allows you to set the white balance and ISO You can not set it - then it will be set automatically. About white balance - it's quite important in this case - because all Canon, as far as I'm concerned, are guilty of overlighting the frame. Shutter Priority, aka TV - allows you to change the shutter speed in the range from 15" to 2500. A high shutter speed gives about this kind of picture. Try that on a DSLR with a 18-55 kit lens and you'll get a laugh in your face. The best you'll get is a yellow blur like a fly. Aperture Priority, aka AV is a value from 3.4 to 8.0. Lets you get a nice DSLR-like blur outside of the subject you're focusing on.

Manual, aka completely manual, allows you to control all possible settings at the same time. If you're not too lazy and the object of your hunt doesn't run away, this mode will please you with the best quality photos. In fact, in every mode the macro function is available, it looks great, the colors are distortion-free, and there's nothing to complain about:

Pros of Canon PowerShot SX150 IS:

+ if you're not a professional photographer who takes pictures for a living, this is the optimal camera for you in virtually every way;
+ if you want to learn something, not just "press a button" - this is the perfect camera;
+ If you are a woman after all and you are not smiling every time you carry around a 2 kg camera graciously chasing a bird with it this is the perfect camera for you.

Cons of Canon PowerShot SX150 IS:

- I know 2 other owners of this camera (models 110 and 130). In 3-5 years of use none of them have ever complained about a single glitch that occurred.

Conclusion: The best camera in terms of price-quality-comfortability-opportunity.

Canon PowerShot SX150 IS - for an amateur what you need! My husband and I bought this camera after the untimely death of our last Kodak. I chose the camera by several criteria: functionality, cost, voracity and image quality. Out of all models on the market we have chosen Canon. Immediately attracted by its design and appearance. But this is not the end of its advantages. I was pleased with the number of manual settings, conveniently located buttons, the purpose of which is easy to guess intuitively. Interesting was the function of the rotating wheel, which is very convenient to view the photos taken. The flash in the camera rises separately, but for me this is only a plus, because in this case it is more powerful and works for longer distances than in simple "soap boxes". Of course, I can't call it even semi-professional, but I think a beginning amateur photographer will like it. Photos with flash are bright and clear. Without the flash, noise appears, but it all depends on the lighting. On the street photos, for example, and without a flash in the daytime are great. The camera, of course, is voracious, but this problem is solved by buying a couple of 2850mA batteries. In general, the camera is worth taking. By the way, unlike its predecessor SX 130, it has double stabilization, which also contributes to improving the quality of photos.

Canon PowerShot SX150 IS is an excellent budget camera. Everything about this model lives up to its description. The design, the usability, the build quality, and even the photo quality for this type of camera - everything is excellent. The camera has many features suitable for experienced photographers and amateurs alike. Because of its small size, you can take it on the road in your pocket. However, it is better to have a special case since the lens does not have a cover. Besides being well assembled, the device produces high quality pictures even in video format. It is recommended to have batteries and a battery charger for your camera. They run out very quickly if you shoot a lot. In the settings there is an option to turn off the screen to save power. I have enough two pairs of batteries for one photo session. Zoom is relative - at high magnification pixels are heavily blurred. For better shooting it is desirable to put on a tripod, or keep on a hand tripod. It is better to take pictures in daylight without a flash. The flash spoils the pictures. It has only one drawback: it does not have a lens cap. If you take photos on the beach you risk clogging the lens with sand. Recommended for amateurs.

Canon again did not let me down. In general I love the company Canon and this model again pleases the eye. Good photos turn out, well in terms of I'm not a professional, so for me as an amateur photos are very good. In general, it is not a bad gift, I was happy with the price seriously. Of course, this is for everyone in his own way. But it takes pretty good quality photos, too, in the dark, the main thing is to have a good look at the settings. If you take photos just for avatars, then generally a great option, also suit any landscape. Battery lasts for a long time, which is also good, so go ahead and buy this model. A solid four from me as an amateur, but for professionals is still better a more serious model. I wish everyone good pictures, and long use, but try to buy the original, not fakes, and then it can not be about the quality of this product.

The Canon PowerShot SX150 IS is a decent camera that is in demand among amateur photographers. I will share with you my opinion about this camera. The Canon SX150 IS offers nothing evolutionary and new. I will tell you what it has to offer. The camera is equipped with CCD sensor with 14,5 Megapixel sensor, the lens has 12x optical zoom, equipped with intellectual system of optical stabilization, which is able to choose one of seven modes. To prevent blurring of the frame depending on the shooting conditions and the selected scene. The quality of the body material is not the best, plastic still leaves the impression of not very expensive, but nevertheless not bad fit, backlashes and gaps beyond the limits I have not noticed. The camera is quite bulky, mainly due to the protruding lens shaft and the bend of the top edge. The flash both raises and closes manually, a powerful AF-assist illuminator lamp is quite helpful when shooting in low light conditions. The manufacturer of the camera offers three color options body, it's already a choice for everyone, but the back side is invariably black. The display is 3 inches. Impressive and the viewing angles of the picture on the display, the colors are distorted only when viewing images from below. On the right side under the rubber cap is located USB-connector for connection to a computer, as well as audio / video output. The lid of the battery compartment has a reliable latch, closes very tightly and there is no backlash. For power - a pair of standard AA batteries, there is also a memory card to store footage. On the top of the camera is a dial for selecting shooting modes, the start button with the zoom lever and camera activation button. To the right of the display are the navigation keys that serve to set up the camera. The reverse roller with a clear and soft stroke, large keys that are practical and convenient to use. The camera loads quickly enough, the menu is simple and understandable for every user. In the menu a lot of programs for both photo and video, there are auto and manual settings, I think that those who understand something about cameras, this will be very interesting. Separately, the selector has a hidden shooting mode. All sounds, flash and AF-assist illuminator are turned off. It shoots in 720p, but nowadays this is not an indicator. You can apply various effects to the video. The quality of images is not bad, accurate color reproduction, excellent sharpness, does not fail and image stabilization system, video with stereo sound. When shooting, you can change the focal length.

Despite the minuses I love it! What really got me interested in it was the manual settings. The camera for its price is not bad. If it had had a viewfinder, which is so useful especially when you want to zoom in on something, and a smaller, lighter weight, then it would have been perfect. While you are shooting video, you think whether the battery will die faster or your hand will go away. Also, the battery runs out very quickly when you take a photo with the flash. The flash charges slowly, so it's hard to catch the right moment. But if the weather is nice and sunny outside it's time to go out and take some pictures. The 12x zoom is the best part. On the street in good weather you get pretty good quality photos. Photos on the car in a poorly lit room leaves much to be desired. But you can indulge in manual settings to take good pictures. Of course the most important and not nice minus is that the battery runs out very quickly, so you have to carry spare batteries. I think this is the right camera for those who want to make the transition from digital to DSLR.

Canon PowerShot SX150 IS is a great camera. I decided to buy myself a camera. In order not to regret the product I bought, I choose it long and carefully. But still I chose the Canon Power Shot SX 150 IS. It is half ordinary, and half professional. The quality of images are just great. When shooting video usually can not zoom in or when you zoom out sound is lost, but in this camera is not so it zooms and the sound remains. Zooms in it is very powerful, I had in the house was a box there is a fine print, and I was sitting at six feet away from it was not visible to anything and when I brought it closer it was visible to every letter. Some say that the flash only works when she wants to No, this is not true near the ON/OFF button is the castor and the different modes if the mode is iFrame and hidden then the flash will not work and all the rest will be fine. The disadvantages are most likely the fact that it is heavy and the battery drains quickly. I would recommend getting one.

***

I have been using this device for about two and a half years, I looked through the Internet when choosing - according to the reviews it is not a bad option with rich features. Outdoors in good light the photos are amazing, but at home in the lack of light the results are worse, shadows, adds some reddish tint, maybe it's just me. In principle, as an advanced camera you can consider, a good optical zoom 12x, shooting HD-video, but videos really obscenely much weight. Decide for yourself.

Canon PowerShot SX150 IS is a good buy! Nowadays digital camera is not a luxury, but rather a necessity. For everyone, this device will be an indispensable helper and friend. There is a category of people who don't need a professional device that will cost exorbitant amounts of money. I belong to this category. When choosing a camera, my main criterion was price. So I found the Canon PowerShot SX150 IS to be just right. I did a lot of research about it on the Internet, read many reviews and critiques. So I decided to take it. The camera belongs to the group of inexpensive digital devices and has a stylish and beautiful design. The images are great, high quality, high resolution, which can be set manually. The video is excellent, without jerks and twitches. In general, my suspicions that for a little money can buy a decent camera completely dispelled. And Canon PowerShot SX150 IS quite confirms it.
