Quite a lot of amazing places are kept by the land of Tatarstan, tourists are waiting for a lot of unexpected discoveries. Discover the unexplored corners of the Republic of Tatarstan and get 1001 fun over the weekend. One of such places is the Kirmen settlement, Kirmen or Kermenchuk in the Tatar language Kirman sharchege. This place is located between the modern villages of Sredny Kirmen and Russian Kirmen of the Mamadyshsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan. The settlement is the remains of the Bulgar, and later the Golden Horde fortress, which existed in the 10th-14th centuries, by the way, the name Kermenchik means "small fortress". What remains of the fortress is located half a kilometer away on a rocky hill at an altitude of more than 700 meters above sea level. It is assumed that the fortress of Kermen-Kale was part of the group of the guard notification system of the Principality of Feodoro, it was a signal post for communication. This fortress was perfectly visible from all nearby fortifications, namely Mangup, Suiren fortress, Tepe-Kermen and Kyz-Kermen.

About 100 years ago, in the vicinity of Kermenchik, the remains of 14 temples were clearly discernible, built on the tops of mountains, at the foot of hills and next to springs. Imagine how many ringing bells rang through the countryside in celebration of the holidays. Of the 14 temples, the locals know the location of the ruins of 11 churches, and 9 of them have preserved the names of temples. These are the names: Trinity, Cosmas and Damian, Theodore of Tyrone, Theodore of Stratelate, Assumption of the Virgin, Euphemia, John the Baptist and Maxim.

The Kirmen archaeological complex is one of the most unique and valuable monuments of the ancient history of Tatarstan. The Kirmenskoye settlement is located in the Mamadyshsky district and has the status of federal property.

In the Russian chronicles in 1396, the Kirmen fortress was mentioned, but some scientists claim that the fortress existed already in the early 11th century.

The fortress is located near the M7 highway, near the village of Sredniye Kirmeni. By the way, the M7 highway also has historical roots – its direction repeats the route of one of the ancient Bulgarian way, then several paths diverged from Kazan in different directions.

Kirmenchuk was once built as a northern outpost of Volga Bulgaria. They say that Kazan Tsarina Syuyumbike and her husband Garai Khan often visited the fortress. It was on behalf of her husband that the name of the village Grahan came from, next to this settlement he anchored. Near the settlement there are the remains of two cemeteries where the soldiers of the fortress were buried.

On an area of about 10 hectares, not inconclusive archaeological excavations have been conducted for more than a century, so fragments of the fortress fortification were found, it was possible to discover a cultural layer at a depth of about 40 cm, which contains the remains of ceramics of different colors and household items made of iron. This is all that remains of the city of Kirmenchuk, which was burned by the ushkuiniki pirates. The inhabitants of the city hid in the forests and founded three villages - Russian, Medium and Small Kirmen, and some of the inhabitants reached the Urals and Siberia. In the Siberian taiga there is a village of Kirmen, where the descendants of the city of Kirmenchuk live.

And here is the most interesting legend. Not far from the Kirmen settlement, there is a cave where the treasures of the Kazan Khanate are hidden. Although this cave was traveled far and wide, for example, even before the revolution, treasure seekers descended into the cave, it did not work out to find the khan's wealth. So go ahead, maybe you'll get lucky. Although the khan's treasures may lie at the bottom of Kaban Lake in the capital of Tatarstan.

To be honest, there is nothing to see there, because a single fragment of a wall with a height of 4.20 meters and a width of 7 meters has been preserved from the former fortifications somewhere in the forest thickets.
